This thesis studies error-correction codes for making synthetic DNA robust to errors in nanopore DNA sequencers. The nanopore sequencer reads DNA by generating signals, but it cannot control the speed at which DNA moves through it, leading to noisy signals with random stretches. This noise makes it difficult to read data stored in DNA reliably. The coding efficiency of an idealised nanopore sequencer is studied, and efficient codes are studied to make DNA storage reliable and practical.
