A Systematic X-ray Spectroscopic Survey of Absorbing Outflows in PG AGN

Energetic AGN outflows that absorb Xray and UV radiation are common, yet theirproperties remain poorly understood. We propose to complete the Xrayspectroscopic coverage of a welldefined sample of 13 PG AGN that appear to bestrongly absorbed by their outflows. We will determine their Xray absorptionand continuum properties, providing the first general conclusions about (1) theorigin of soft Xray weakness in AGN, (2) the Xray/UV absorption connectionranging from associated UV absorbers to BALs, (3) the column density, ionizationparameter, and covering fraction of the Xray absorbing material, and (4) therelation of the Xray absorption properties to other key AGN properties.
