Different Commercial Microbial Additives Influence Fermentation Quality and Bacterial Community of King Grass Silage

The microbiota in forage silages is a key determinant of silage quality. Microbial inoculants are considered as a good choice for successful ensiling, playing a key role in improving the silage quality. This study investigated the effects of six commercial microbial additives (from pastures in the mountainous areas of Southwest China) on king grass silages under field production conditions. We compared the fermentation quality, diversity of viable microbial communities, and metabolites of silages produced with or without additives, using an integrative microbiome and metabolome analysis.
