What inhibits globular cluster cataclysmic variable outburstsquestionMark

We will perform EPIC observations of two Galactic globular clusters to detectthe cataclysmic variables (and other binaries or their progeny) in theseclusters. From the spectra (or Xray colours) and lightcurves we will determinethe nature of the Xray sources, identify the cataclysmic variable orbitalperiods and detect white dwarf spin periods in the brightest intermediate polars(magnetic cataclysmic variables), to show why cataclysmic variables show feweroutbursts in globular clusters than in the field. The populations, positions andnature of the objects will also help us understand the formation mechanism ofcataclysmic variables in globular clusters and to comprehend their possiblecontribution in slowing the inevitable core collapse of these very dense stellar systems. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
