Biomarkers in tauopathies: Advancing diagnostics through tau-PET, fluids, MRI, and cognition

This PhD thesis explores tauopathies, a group of neurodegenerative diseases that affect movement, behavior, and thinking. These include progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), which are difficult to diagnose due to overlapping symptoms and a lack of reliable biomarkers. This research highlights the potential of PET imaging, a brain scan that detects harmful tau protein buildup, in combination with fluid biomarkers, MRI, and cognitive assessments. These findings help improve diagnosis, provide insights into disease progression, and support the development of treatments for tau-related brain diseases.
