Oral microbiome in pregnant women

Participants were pregnant women in the PREDICT prenatal cohort study recruited (n= 400) who provided saliva during pregnancy. Using 16S rRNA next-generation sequencing, we examined the salivary microbiome composition of women with depressive symptoms during pregnancy (n=46, DSDP) compared with control women without DSDP (n=327). DSDP was evaluated using the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) (range: 0-60) in the sampled trimester. A score of 16 or greater indicates clinically-significant depressive symptoms.
