X-RAY EMISSION COMPONENTS OF THE GRAND-DESIGN PECULIAR SPIRAL GALAXY NGC 6946

We propose a sensitive XMMNewton survey of the granddesign Scd faceon spiralgalaxy NGC 6946. This galaxy is remarkable due to its high star formationactivity (e.g. the high number of recorded supernovae), its massive peculiarnorthern spiral arm and radio detected magnetic arms. located between theoptical arms. XMMNewton will be used to disentangle and characterize emissionfrom point sources and extended hot gas.
