This dataset encompasses value-added indicators for general and technical high schools across France, designed to assess the role of individual high schools in facilitating students’ success in the Baccalauréat (French national high school graduation examination) and delivering support throughout their secondary education. The value-added indicators employ statistical computations to exclude the influence of academic success factors tied to external elements outside the high schools, thereby reflecting the intrinsic contribution of the schools themselves. Specifically, the dataset compares the actual academic outcomes of students in each high school against their expected performance, which is predicted based on two sets of factors: student-specific characteristics including age, gender, academic proficiency upon enrollment, and social background, and school structural factors such as the share of female students, proportion of students experiencing academic delays, students’ social backgrounds, and the average score of the junior high school graduation examination. A positive value-added score means the high school outperforms its expected performance, while a negative score indicates the school falls below the average performance of peer high schools. The dataset also provides explanations for calculation thresholds: for instance, general and technical high schools require a minimum of 20 examinees to compute the original pass rate, whereas vocational high schools need at least 10 examinees. Furthermore, the expected pass rate and corresponding value-added indicators will not be calculated if the number of examinees in the general and technical high school cohort is fewer than 40, or fewer than 20 in the vocational high school cohort. The data is sourced from the French government’s open data platform, and is intended for use in educational policy analysis and school evaluation.
