VPRS 12653 Outward Registered Correspondence (Secretary's Branch)

The Central Road Board (VA 2803) was established circa March 1853 with responsibility for the formation, construction, improvement, management and maintenance of proclaimed main roads and bridges and for the co-ordination of the works undertaken by the District Road Boards. The primary officers were the Secretary, Treasurer and an Inspector-General of Roads. The Central Road Board was abolished on 1 January 1858 and succeeded by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) which operated under the statutory control of the Board of Land and Works (VA 744).The volumes in this series consist of copies of the outward correspondence and memoranda from the Secretary of the Board. One volume has been used later for a Time Book (1860 1862), most probably in the succeeding agency, the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964).VPRS 12653/P1 was previously registered as Units 8, 9 and 10 of VPRS 1122 Outward Registered Correspondence.

本系列档案卷宗包含该委员会秘书所出具的外发函件与备忘录副本。其中一卷在后续被用作工时登记簿（1860年—1862年），其使用主体极有可能为其继任机构——道路与桥梁部（VA 2964）。
