Unveiling the timing behaviour of the radio-quiet Vela-like pulsar J1826-1256

The radioquiet gammaray pulsars discovered by Fermi Large Area Telescope arecrucial to understand pulsar magnetospheres and the Galactic neutron starpopulation. We propose a deep XMM observation of PSR J18261256, the young,energetic radioquiet pulsar in the Eel nebula. Its timing parameters andgammaray properties are similar to those of the Vela pulsar. Comparing its Xand gammaray emission with other Velalike, but radioloud, pulsars will helpto probe the nature of radio quietness/loudness in pulsars. We will exploit XMMto search for Xray pulsations of the Xray bright PSR J18261256, detail itstiming and spectral behaviour, and discriminate the pulsar emission from that ofits nebula by using archival Chandra data. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
