Geotope

Geotopes are earth-historical formations of inanimate nature that convey knowledge about the development of the earth and life. They include outcrops of rocks, soils, minerals and fossils as well as individual natural creations and natural landscape parts. Geotopes have been systematically recorded in Bavaria since 1985 and registered in the geotope register of the State Office for the Environment. The Geotopes layer shows the location of the geotopes of Bavaria. In addition to the name and number of the geotope in the geotope register, additional information such as the position as UTM coordinate (north and east value), the geological space unit to which the object belongs, information on contact addresses and more are attached as attributes. In addition, a descriptive profile is linked to all important key data and, if necessary, the number is given in the series ‘Bavaria’s 100 most beautiful geotopes’. Please note: This dataset is not up-to-date and also incomplete, as some geotopes are not generally published by the State Office for the Environment (reasons: Private land, company premises, particularly sensitive and endangered objects).
