Common Agricultural Policy 2020+

Environment and climate protection are the focus of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period after 2020. Three of the nine goals deal with climate change mitigation, adaptation to climate change, sustainable energy, efficient management of natural resources and the protection of biodiversity. In order to achieve these objectives, each Member State must draw up a ‘CAP Strategic Plan’, analysing the national situation in terms of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (‘SWOT analysis’) and the related need for action. This report provides the basis for the preparation of a SWOT analysis for the field of environment and climate. The description and analysis of the current situation in Austria is carried out by presenting relevant legal instruments, context indicators and results of national studies.
