In the floor overview map in scale 1: 500 000 (BÜK500) are depicted the most important soil types and their socialisation based on soil landscapes, large soil landscapes and soil regions. The spatial distribution of soils usually shows a narrow mosaic of different appearances and characteristics. Even at large scales, the spread can usually only be represented as soil socialisation. The pedoregional structure is intended to provide the framework for a systematic order of the spatial coexistence of soils. The soil regions and large soil landscapes provide an overview of the sociological structure of the country and form the upper levels of the pedoregional division of Lower Saxony. The spread of soils in Lower Saxony is not accidental. It is easy to understand that the soils in the area of the plain martial landscapes differ in principle from those of the Geest, the mountain foreland, the mountain country or the low mountain range (resin). The soils and soil societies in the area of the plain marsh landscapes find no equivalent in the geest, the mountain foreland, the mountain country or the low mountain range (resin). The above-mentioned categories therefore also describe large-scale soil-related structures and are referred to as the soil regions of Lower Saxony. Within the soil regions more homogeneous soil areas can be formed by narrowing the geofactors (rock, relief, water balance, climate). The structure of the large soil landscapes depends on the geological morphological structure. In the geest, this is mainly based on the sequence in the glacial series and maritime-continental climate change. In the mountain foreland region, loose-free and loose-covered large landscapes of different relief forms (even to flat wavy, hilly) are separated. The large soil landscapes of the mountain country differ due to the relief appearance. The soil regions of the low mountains and the coast are not subdivided into large soil landscapes.
