Production and treatment of textile waste in Austria.

In Austria, 221.800 tonnes of textile waste end up in garbage every year. Only 17 percent of textile waste is reused and recycled, most of which is burned. This is shown by analyses by the Federal Environment Agency on the supply and treatment of textile waste, for which waste types, textile content, industry origin and areas of application were determined in 2018. The focus is on old dresses, of which 44,697 tonnes were collected separately and about half were exported. Bottlenecks in the collection of old textiles will also be highlighted by the corona pandemic in 2020.
