Reimbursement of implants that allow the fixation of an external prosthesis

Osseo-integrated prostheses involve direct contact between the titanium implant and the bone. They provide an alternative for patients who cannot use conventional socket prostheses, because of recurrent skin infections, ulceration in the socket contact area, a short residual limb or extensive skin grafting. For a well-defined group of patients, this type of prostheses has proven to be efficient and safe. Hence, the commission de remboursement des implants et des dispositifs medicaux invasifs (CRIDMI) of the RIZIV-INAMI recently decided to reimburse osseo-integrated prostheses under the conditions mentioned in annex 2. Registration of additional information via healthdata is part of the reimbursement conditions. 3 years after the start of the reimbursement, the implanting and rehabilitation centres will have to draft a report to the CRIDMI based on the registered data.
