AN EPIC SURVEY OF THE ORION NEBULA REGION

The Orion Cloud Complex is the largest galactic nearby star forming region. Itis rich in features r^ant to all stages from cloud collapse to T Tauevolution. In previous surveys, a few hundred Xray sources were detected. Wepropose here a comprehensive EPIC survey of the Orion Nebula region withunprecedented sensitivity. Two fields north of the Trapezium cluster will obtain20 ks of exposure time each. This observation will complement a GT observationof the Trapezium cluster by the same proposing investigators. The deep exposureswill for the first time sample the complete lowmass end of the HRD, and detectsources up to about 6 times weaker than before.
