The database contains the selectively recorded biotope types and habitat types within the FFH areas (FFH baseline survey) and in selected areas outside the Lower Saxony FFH areas (updated national biotope mapping) on near-natural to degenerated bog sites and other carbon-rich soils with significance for climate protection (BHK50). Quality-tested mapped biotope types available to the NLWKN, which occur exclusively on organic sites in accordance with the mapping key of Lower Saxony biotope types, were also mapped outside the above-mentioned soil backdrop, as these point to further moorland sites. Fully natural or semi-natural terrestrial or aquatic areas characterised by geographical, abiotic and biotic characteristics) in accordance with Annex I to Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora are mapped throughout Lower Saxony and are also to be covered nationwide. Biotopes that do not have LRT status within the Habitats Areas are not recorded in the digital maps. The peatland biotopes outside the FFH areas presented here (updated national biotope mapping) were also selectively selected and recorded thematically (in terms of their value, habitat type, etc.). It is therefore not a comprehensive representation of the biotope types on bogs. Sealed, populated, inland areas were not mapped due to a lack of importance for peatland protection.The areas shown are biotope complexes. For presentational reasons, only the most dominant significant peatland biotope type (MBdtsDom) is depicted in the legend in the form of a derived peatland biotope gorge. The fields for protection status, value levels, rarity, nutrient sensitivity, groundwater dependence, etc. also refer to the dominant significant bog biotope type in this database. However, the attribute table of the database also shows the other biotope types or habitat types contained therein as well as their percentage of area.In addition, the dominant bog LRT, which was derived from the dominant bog biotope type, is shown. The bog LRTs are shown separately in the attribute table by LRT of the land area and the still waters, since both LRT categories can occur within a polygon. The conservation status of the dominant terrestrial LRT can be taken from the field ‘FFHZSTH_ML’, which for the dominant still water LRT is taken from the field ‘FFHZSTH_MS’.
