This thesis develops a high-strength magnesium alloy tailored for additive manufacturing. Magnesium is valued in structural applications for its low weight and high specific strength, but traditional manufacturing limits design flexibility. This research designs a new Mg alloy and evaluates its processability through laser remelting. The study then examines the microstructure and properties of the as-built material, followed by post-treatment strategies including hot isostatic pressing and aging. The resulting characteristic microstructure and tensile behaviour are analysed to understand the strengthening mechanisms. This work supports the development of printable, high-performance Mg alloys for lightweight engineering applications.
