Probing correlated X-ray and free-free absorption variability in PKS 1718-649

We propose to observe the well known young gigaherzpeaked spectrum radio galaxyPKS 1718649, which is part of TANAMI, the multiwavelength AGN monitoringprogram on the southern hemisphere. PKS 1718649 turns out to be the only sourcewhere variable freefree absorption has been detected in its radio core. Manypublications emphasize the possibility of correlated Xray absorption, due tothe very likely spatial vicinity of the radio and Xray emission sites. Up tonow, however, no simultaneous Xray and radio observations were conducted, whichis the aim of this proposal. As we will demonstrate, PKS 1718649 also showsvariable Xray absorption and is therefore the source of choice for testingcorrelated absorption variability of the radio and the Xrays. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
