POLLEN ANALYSIS AT 24YE353 AND MWAC 89-22, ALONG THE YELLOWSTONE RIVER, MONTANA

Three hearths at 24YE353 were noted eroding from the northern bank of
the Yellowstone River. These features were examined for their pollen and
macro floral content to identify common elements of the local vegetation, as
well as to address possible subsistence activities. In addition, another
site located upstream, MAC 89-22, contained a single hearth, which was
sampled for both pollen and macrofloral remains. These samples are being
analyzed as part of a program of post-fire assessment currently under way at
Yellowstone National Park.
