Against the background of digitalisation, e-commerce and the aftermath of global pandemics, pedestrian frequencies are an important indicator of the attractiveness of a location. This measure indicates the number of people who have entered a delimited location within a certain period of time. As one of many Smart City solutions, Würzburg also has sensors that are able to measure the number of passers-by completely in compliance with data protection and anonymously with the help of laser technology. As one of the first locations in Germany, the city of Würzburg has been publishing the hourly passer-by frequency in Schönbornstraße transparently and openly with the help of laser technology since April 2019. In October 2022, [Kaiserstraße ](https://opendata.wuerzburg.de/explore/dataset/passantenzaehlung_kaiserstrasse/information/)and [Spiegelstraße ](https://opendata.wuerzburg.de/explore/dataset/passantenzaehlung_spiegelstrasse/information/) were added as additional locations. The aim of these measurements is to record the pulse rate of the city centre in order to create a realistic situational picture and differentiated analyses of the number of passers-by.
