Magnetic CVs from SDSS

We propose to continue our very successful program of XMMNewton observations ofnew magnetic CVs found in the SDSS. Results from the past 3yrs include: findingXrays from the lowest accretion rate magnetic accretors originate only from thecompanion M star; showing the structure of eclipsed accretion columns; revealingspin pulses in new IPs and flaring in other systems. We propose continuing thiswork on 7 new systems found in the latest SDSS data, including 2 confirmedPolars and 1 confirmed IP. We exploit the high sensitivity of XMMNewton toconstruct good light curves to delineate the geometry of the accretion column orspin of the white dwarf, and the large energy coverage to determine the shock vsblob heating in low accretion rate regimes which are a large fraction of magnetic CVs. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
