Identification of viruses infecting chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in Central Mexico.

In order to identify a virus (es) causing viral symptoms in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), we conducted small RNA sequencing and assembly (SRA) and confirmation by RT-PCR, 5 and 3 RACE, and Sanger sequencing. The complete genome sequence of a novel polerovirus, for which we propose the name Chickpea leafroll virus (CpLRV), was reconstructed from a sample of chickpea named GIRD. This is the first report of a polerovirus infecting chickpea in central Mexico.
