The soil part function “Archive of Natural History” is based on the criterion of natural historical significance according to Table 1 of the Saxon Soil Assessment Instrument. The archive of natural history includes soils with special characteristics of natural history development. This includes, for example, soils from rare soil substrates (e.g. flying sand) or low, transitional and high bog soils, whose historical development and formation extends to the present time. In addition, natural-historical soils are also highly interesting in the functional importance and of very high protection value. For example, intensively soaked soils or groundwater soils with high humusa accumulation as well as fossil soils, such as black soils, have a high function for biodiversity. The archiving functions of the soils are partial functions of the Federal Soil Protection Act. The assessment does not directly assess the site position and climatic site conditions, although these are relevant for the preservation and endangerment of the archive floors.
