Social Media Posts Related to the 30th Anniversaries of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and German Reunification

This dataset, published in Excel format, contains 328 social media posts collected from five major digital platforms — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. The dataset focuses on content related to the 30th anniversaries of the Fall of the Berlin Wall (2019) and German reunification (2020). It was compiled in support of a peer-reviewed research article submitted to Historical Encounters, under the project title “Constructing the Anniversary: Commemorating Historical Events on Social Media and the Forms of Virtual Celebration.” Each entry in the dataset is annotated with metadata including platform of origin, publication date, content type (text/image/video), URL, actor type, primary function, and post format. A detailed explanation of the dataset’s structure, collection procedures, and analytical framework will be provided in the forthcoming article.
