Historic Redlining Zones

This dataset shows zones included on the 1936 Federal Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC) map of the City of Worcester, digitized from a scanned copy of the original 1936 map. The zones included on HOLC maps were used to help banks and mortgage insurers decide to approve or decline credit. HOLC maps facilitated "redlining", the practice of denying fair access to credit based largely on the race of the residents of a neighborhood.
