For this experiment, the sweep-net procedure was used. The experiment aimed to capture insects with vigorous net-sweeping action along specified transects. The distance walked along the transect each time was 25 meters for a total of 10 times. The targeted insects were located in the grasslands at York University. Once a single transect was complete, the net was held open and the captured insects were observed and identified according to their RTUs (recognizable taxonomic units). For each capture, the number of insects in each RTU were visually counted and recorded. This method was repeated 10 times in the grasslands and resulted in a total sample size of 54 captured insects.

本实验采用扫网法(sweep-net)进行昆虫样本采集。实验旨在沿指定样带通过强力扫网操作捕获昆虫:每次沿样带行进25米,共开展10次采样作业。本次采集的目标昆虫栖息于约克大学校园内的草地生境中。单条样带采样完成后,保持扫网开口,依据可识别分类单元(RTUs, recognizable taxonomic units)对捕获的昆虫进行观察与鉴定。针对每一次采样,目视计数并记录各可识别分类单元下的昆虫数量。该采样方法在校园草地中重复实施10次,最终累计获得54只捕获昆虫的总样本量。
