收藏资源简介:
In XMM/AO18 we embarked on a project to reveal previously unrecognized magnetic CVs based on common (though not universal) optical fingerprints. This has led to the successful discovery of a low luminosity intermediate polar (LLIP) which we are continuing in our AO20 program. In this proposal we request fullfill observation of a sample of supposed dwarf novae with high Fx/Fopt ratios and high X-ray luminosity making them excellent candidates to be previously unrecognized LLIPs. If many of our targets are confirmed as LLIPs their space density may be comparable to or higher than typical intermediate polars (IPs) that are more X-ray luminous. LLIPs may well be the missing links in the evolution of magnetic white dwarfs in interacting binaries. [truncated! Please see actual data for full text]
