The Federal Environment Agency has developed a "renewable energy" scenario that will achieve a far-reaching decarbonisation of the energy system by 2050. Assumptions have been made for all energy-relevant sectors that lead to an increase in efficiency or a substitution of fossil fuels. This requires structural changes and technological developments. The scenario shows that greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels can be reduced by 60% by 2030 and by 90% by 2050 (compared to 2005), and energy consumption by 20% by 2030 (compared to 2010). The share of renewable energy sources will rise to 61% by 2030 and to 91% by 2050. The renewable energy scenario was developed on behalf of the Austrian Biomass Association, IG Windkraft and Save Energy Austria.
