Slovenian Youth and Military Profession, 2000

Research into the attitude of Slovenian youth towards the military profession is a repetition of the research from three years ago, when there was a strong need to establish a general interest in the exercise of the military profession/professional from which future educated military professionals are recruited. With the research, which is based on the already tested methodology, we have regained answers to the interest of the Slovenian modern army. At the same time, we wanted to regain a general image of willingness and tolerance to enter the military profession. The starting point in this study was similar to that of the predecessor. The need for an increasing professional qualification of the military profession, the ever closer security Euro-Atlantic integration and the intense need to restructure certain not only the organisational but also functional characteristics of the Slovenian Armed Forces, were the main reasons for the repetition of the research. Since in the previous research we found that the military profession is still unattractive in the consciousness of the Slovenian youth, and without major targeted (aspiration) realisation, we also included a range of different questions about the range, rights and duties related to military service and the attractiveness of service of obligations. The practical aim of the research was to re-examine and find both subjective and objective factors in relation to the decision-making on military time, using a questionnaire in a new disguise. At the same time, the study represented a synthesis of pressing and controversial topics about national security and warfare.
