Water stress and water use efficiency indicators of Azerbaijan

This dataset provides national-level water stress and water-use efficiency indicators for Azerbaijan. It was prepared for the research project “Satellite-based assessment of water level variability and economic exposure in Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea and strategic inland water systems.” The dataset combines SDG-related water indicators and international water-use context data. It includes SDG 6.4.1 on change in water-use efficiency over time, SDG 6.4.2 on the level of water stress, and the World Bank / FAO AQUASTAT indicator on annual freshwater withdrawals for agriculture as a percentage of total freshwater withdrawal. The dataset is designed to support analysis of national water resource pressure, water-use efficiency, agricultural freshwater dependency, and broader environmental-economic exposure in Azerbaijan. These indicators provide important national context for interpreting satellite-based water level variability in the Caspian Sea and selected inland water systems. The dataset package includes cleaned time-series data, long-format indicator data, trend summary tables, raw source exports, a data dictionary, metadata, source links, citation notes, and documentation files to support transparency, reproducibility, and reuse. The indicators are national-level context indicators and should not be interpreted as regional or district-level measurements. They are intended for academic research, SDG-related water analysis, environmental economics, and water security assessment.
