Economic exposure indicators for Caspian coastal regions of Azerbaijan

This dataset provides economic exposure indicators for selected Caspian coastal regions of Azerbaijan. It was prepared for the research project “Satellite-based assessment of water level variability and economic exposure in Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea and strategic inland water systems.” The dataset includes selected demographic and economic indicators for coastal administrative units of Azerbaijan, including Baku, Sumgait, Absheron, Khizy, Siyazan, Shabran, Khachmaz, Salyan, Neftchala, Lankaran, and Astara. The indicators cover population total, population density, industrial output, and capital investments for 2024. These indicators were compiled from official data of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organized to support environmental-economic exposure analysis related to Caspian Sea water level variability. The dataset also includes a calculated economic exposure index based on normalized demographic and economic indicators. This index is intended to provide a comparative overview of potential regional exposure to water-level-related environmental and infrastructure risks along Azerbaijan’s Caspian coastal zone. The dataset package includes CSV and XLSX files, a data dictionary, metadata, source notes, citation information, and documentation files to support transparency, reproducibility, and reuse.
