Molecular determinants of sensitivity to EGFR inhibition in breast cancer are unknown. We provide new understanding of a subset of breast tumors with heterogeneous EGFR positivity that are sensitive to EGFR inhibition. These tumors contain a tumorigenic EGFR-high subpopulation with stem-like properties with sensitivity to EGFR inhibition.
