Research and development in the field of environmental technology.

The report describes topics and trends in environmental technology research at Austrian universities and non-university research institutions. As a basis for this, the R&D surveys of Statistik Austria are evaluated and additional research and interviews are carried out with relevant stakeholders. After 2018, the fifth updated evaluation is now available. Compared to 2015, the number of environmental technology-relevant R&D facilities decreased slightly to 231 in 2017. By contrast, the number of persons employed in research institutions increased slightly during this period, reaching 10,315 persons. This corresponds to 17% of employees in R&D in all economic sectors. R&D activities continue to focus on climate protection, energy, waste and raw materials and resources.
