Landfill gas collection 2013 - 2017.

In landfills where waste with a high biological content has been deposited in the past, landfill gas containing greenhouse-active methane is produced by the degradation of the organic matter. The collection and treatment of the generated landfill gas can reduce emissions, thereby supporting the achievement of climate objectives, in particular in the waste management sector. Based on questionnaire surveys, the report describes the collection and treatment of landfill gas in the years 2013 to 2017 as well as the respective treatment pathways. Assessments by operators of the extent to which measures they have taken to irrigate or improve gas collection influence the recorded gas volumes are presented. In addition, information on the extent of temporary cover areas and irrigation measures of landfills is included in the report.
