Asylum applications, publication of 12 June 2020

This publication is based on a new source, the information system (SI-Asile) deployed in Single Windows of Asylum Requests -GUDA- (see page 3), supplemented by data from Ofpra and CNDA. The scope now includes asylum applications under the Dublin procedure which fall outside Ofpra’s jurisdiction as well as asylum applications arriving directly at Ofpra without having been made in GUDA. SI-Asile is now considered reliable for statistical production based on 2018 data, allowing publication on this new source for the first year.
In 2019, 177,822 asylum applications were sent to France, up 9.3 % compared to 2018. Among these, there are 138,420 applications (including 105,904 major ones) and 12,863 reviews submitted within the GUDA, as well as 26,539 requests, made outside the GUDA.
In 2019, 132,826 asylum applications were registered at Ofpra. 95,400 decisions, excluding accompanying minors, were taken up 1.9 % compared to 2018. Ofpra took 22,295 agreement decisions compared to 24,613 in 2018.
In 2019, the National Asylum Court (CNDA) issued 66,464 decisions, up sharply from 2018. This is due to a catching up in the activity of 2018, marked by a strike at the Court.
In total, the number of decisions granting protection status (refugee and subsidiary protection, excluding accompanying minors) taken by Ofpra and CNDA stood at 36,275 in 2019, (+ 8.8 % compared to 2018). This is due to the much larger volume of decisions rendered by the CNDA.
