This dataset analyzes the spatiotemporal distribution patterns, impacts and loss conditions of typical global flood disaster events during 2018-2019. In 2018, there were a total of 109 global flood disasters, resulting in 1,995 fatalities, a total of 12.62 million affected people, and direct economic losses of approximately 4.5 billion USD, which was at a relatively low level over the past 30 years worldwide. The number of global flood disasters in the first half of 2018 was higher than that in the second half, with a relatively high occurrence frequency from May to July. Therefore, three typical disaster events were selected as case studies for analysis from the aspects of disaster background, disaster-causing factors and affected conditions, including the Hurricane Florence flood in the United States in 2018, the Niger River floods in Nigeria in 2018, and the Shouguang floods in Shandong, China in 2018.
