Industrial scenarios for 2030 and 2050 climate targets

For the discussion on climate and energy targets for 2030 and 2050, the Federal Environment Agency has drawn up three scenarios for the industry sector. The WEM scenario takes into account measures that have already been implemented, and additional measures are also included in the WAM scenario. In the WAM plus scenario, further developments such as increased energy efficiency, the use of fundamentally new technologies and structural changes (improved recycling, longer-lasting products) are modelled in order to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption. The results show that compared to 2010, the total consumption of the energy sector by 2050 increases by 99 PJ to 615 PJ in the WEM scenario and by 56 PJ to 573 PJ in the WAM scenario, while it decreases by 117 PJ to 399 PJ in the WAM plus scenario. The scenarios were financed by the Climate and Energy Fund.
