Flat screen old equipment

From 2015 onwards, an increasing volume of flat screen WEEE is to be expected in Austria. Flat panel displays have a high content of recyclable materials such as aluminium, plastics and electronic components. The indium contained in displays is an important technology metal. Flat panel displays also contain pollutants, especially easily released mercury. This report provides an overview of the status quo of collection and treatment in Austria, treatment methods used in Europe and treatment options for certain components. For the environmentally sound treatment of flat screens, the report formulates minimum requirements that have been derived on the basis of the environmental impact of the treatment and taking into account existing standards in other European countries.
