Volunteer engagement in the future!

Emergency organisations and their volunteers form the backbone of civil protection in Austria. Already today, demographic development and structural changes pose challenges for volunteering, which are compounded by the climate change. More frequent and violent extreme weather events lead to an increased threat to people, settlements, infrastructures and commercial areas. In order to successfully address these challenges, new strategies for volunteer engagement, public and private protection measures, as well as for target-group-oriented risk communication — are crucial. In addition to climatic changes, economic and social effects for the development of future-proof measures were also taken into account.
