Socio-economic considerations according to genetic engineering law

Socio-economic evaluations of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are increasingly being discussed with the advent of new genetic engineering. This report covers different assessment systems and examines the extent to which sustainability aspects and environmental issues are taken into account. In addition, an overview of the existing data is given. Data gaps, including social, environmental and longer-term impacts, influence the practical implementation of a comprehensive socio-economic assessment of GMOs. Finally, the report discusses the conditions for a full consideration of environmental aspects in the authorisation of GMOs, including the risks associated with the introduction of a risk-benefit analysis, for example.
