In this module, students explore maps and layers using bike crash data in Santa Barbara. This module covers (1) accessing and analyzing data and metadata, (2) evaluating the representativeness of spatial data, and (3) exploring how maps are used in decision-making. Students will access and download data from an outside source and upload it to ArcGIS Online for further analysis. This module allows students to explore Volunteer Geographic Information (VGI) through a case study on bike crash data in Santa Barbara. Instructors can encourage students to apply similar analyses to other VGI examples, extending the concepts practiced in the module. Original data sources are provided for instructors and students. Technical Requirements: This module uses ArcGIS Online and Instant Apps and requires the student to have an ArcGIS account.
